There’s a ton of important vasculature in the pelvis, dick jokes aside. Even a closed fracture can accumulate liters of blood internally.

Remember the dude who bleeds out on the table in Blackhawk Down? Those arteries are about as thick as your thumb up near the junkular junction.

The liver is also a highly vascular organ. This guy didn't stand a chance.

I heard that if you are in a self defense situation, one of the better places to shoot someone is in the pelvic region because the pelvic region doesn't move as much as the upper body so it's easier to hit and because a good hit to that region will immobilize the attacker almost immediately.

Not sure that's the right way to go, especially if the attacker has a gun, but it kind of makes sense.

PS: I'm not a self defense expert. Do your own research.

I would still aim center mass. If someone was to survive said gunshot you leave yourself open to litigation in the realm of you shot to permanently maim or disfigure and it is hard to defend against especially if there is evidence that you aimed there on purpose. I know its fucked up but self defense with a gun is tricky business.

You don’t want to leave anyone behind who might take revenge

Fractured pelvises have told me it also immobilizes them.

I made it up to describe the bifurcation of the abdominal aorta into the iliac arteries. Sorry, doc.
