I wouldnt put it passed the dems to suddenly make it vanish like the only thing standing in the way was them not being in control. What a coincidence. Likewise I could see Trump making it vanish by some aggressive "house cleaning" following his win.
By the same token I could see the dems keeping it around to secure totalitarian power (for your safety*) and if Trump wins they ramp up the fear mongering to keep it around. Perhaps even staging major terror attacks using disease as the weapon.
Then there is limitless media to cut through like overgrown amazonian vines that will continue to push it even if it's just for ratings.
