Let's not pretend a kid who had to kill two people and maim another to save himself isn't gonna need serious therapy. Like sure, he's a hero and he should be told that...but we also shouldn't act like this should be a fond, fun memory for him, it was probably the worst moment of his life, and one he'll spend a long time coming to terms with.
PTSD tends to correlate with the feeling of being out of control. So SEALS and other special ops that have to kill people might not become scarred. But the kid who joined the military and is surprised attacted or runs into an IED is much more likely to have issues. Unfortunately, as well as the kid handled himself here, it's closer to the second scenario, especially since he's also having to defend his life again in court.
That's not most people though. And even for those who do want that kind of life, the military trains the shit out of them not just physically but psychologically to get them ready for it, and many STILL come back with PTSD.
The only regret Kyle will ever have is not being able to kill that murderous violent pedophile ever again.

You know, there are few people who join the military because they want to be able to fight and kill.
Not everyone who kills is mentally scarred or traumatized.

Good response, thanks for the input.
And for that I am forever grateful those guys exist for us. The ones chomping to go outside the wire.
That being said we must do our part to protect our country.

Exactly. Screw those asshole pedophiles and domestic abuse violators for violently throwing themselves at his self-defense rounds.
Wow I'm glad someone finally said this.

I just modified the joke to fit.
Yeah, for sure, he was 17 years old, and being chased by an angry violent mob twice, fighting for his life, and barely escaped alive.
Yes, twice, there was a mob chasing him at the time of the first shooting, not just the guy with a shirt on his head.
Well there are a lot more.
