Lemme toss this in there...

I’ll admit this was pulled way too quick to be legit. Powers that be are clearly trying to paint the “he was a good guy” narrative. However I disagree that they should remain.

These people, disgusting as they are, have families. They have brothers. They have mothers and fathers, cousins, etc. Unfortunately, I can tell you first hand how fucked up it is as a relation to one of these sick fucks and to have your family name associated with them. Your acquaintances, coworkers, prospective love interests or whatever can pull that up anytime. Now of course it isn’t you, but it sure as hell doesn’t make for a nice conversation. Getting that shit removed was job one when my family member died and I can tell you it was not taken down the next fucking day. They wouldn’t even discuss it until we had the death cert and that took weeks.

So yeah, I respectfully disagree that these should stay up post mortem. One more pedo is dead. That’s good enough for me.

I agree. I am one of 6 children in my family. 3 of us are in our 20s, the others are 13 and younger. My brother has done some despicable things; the rest of my family has a clean slate and wants to work hard and live freely, not bothering others. It would be supremely unfair to hold me or my family accountable for the sins of one person. We have a unique name, too, so if I ever have somebody do some deep searching for that name, it's likely that it'll reflect poorly on me (because they'll assume the worst).

Agree - guilt by family relation isn't fair. Leave that crap to the lefties.

Yeah it’s a bitch. It isn’t you of course but it still hangs over the family like this shroud of shame. I am fully on board with the list because it is critical to keeping your kids safe but people need to understand that there are others besides the perp impacted. I do wish there was a better way but there really isn’t.

Thanks to both of you for sharing your stories. You changed my mind on the subject for sure.

Maybe they should still be in the database but only accessible via a FOIA requests? That way not just anyone could google your last name and find out. They’d have to actively ask for the information. Would that be something worth considering?

Thanks, I can tell you it still isn’t easy to talk about. Even relatively anonymously. I would imagine the charges themselves are still on the books. Just the registry gets updated. It’s an imperfect solution but it’s really the only way. Keeping the public informed is much more important than any hassle it caused me. Now they should take it a step further and let you know if you have a murderer living next door.

I'm concerned about guilt by association.

Let's say you did contract work with him for a bit before he died. You don't know one thing about his politics, and yes you failed to look if he was on the sex offender list. It's one thing to be associating with a living person whose a pervert (even if he is mowing your office building's lawn, or whatever), but once his brains have been blown out on the street then why should you have to worry about it as someone who once had a legal association with him at arm's length?

After he's dead?
