Let's say you did contract work with him for a bit before he died. You don't know one thing about his politics, and yes you failed to look if he was on the sex offender list. It's one thing to be associating with a living person whose a pervert (even if he is mowing your office building's lawn, or whatever), but once his brains have been blown out on the street then why should you have to worry about it as someone who once had a legal association with him at arm's length?
