I agree. I am one of 6 children in my family. 3 of us are in our 20s, the others are 13 and younger. My brother has done some despicable things; the rest of my family has a clean slate and wants to work hard and live freely, not bothering others. It would be supremely unfair to hold me or my family accountable for the sins of one person. We have a unique name, too, so if I ever have somebody do some deep searching for that name, it's likely that it'll reflect poorly on me (because they'll assume the worst).
Agree - guilt by family relation isn't fair. Leave that crap to the lefties.
Yeah it’s a bitch. It isn’t you of course but it still hangs over the family like this shroud of shame. I am fully on board with the list because it is critical to keeping your kids safe but people need to understand that there are others besides the perp impacted. I do wish there was a better way but there really isn’t.
Thanks to both of you for sharing your stories. You changed my mind on the subject for sure.
Maybe they should still be in the database but only accessible via a FOIA requests? That way not just anyone could google your last name and find out. They’d have to actively ask for the information. Would that be something worth considering?
Thanks, I can tell you it still isn’t easy to talk about. Even relatively anonymously. I would imagine the charges themselves are still on the books. Just the registry gets updated. It’s an imperfect solution but it’s really the only way. Keeping the public informed is much more important than any hassle it caused me. Now they should take it a step further and let you know if you have a murderer living next door.

How about just don’t let murderers and rapists out of prison? No need for a registry, just keep em* locked up
