I think this outcome is much more likely. Rather than a large scale conflict, it seems more plausible that we'll reach a breaking point where something of this sort happens. Short, fast, and to the point.

Rather than a protracted war that destroys infrastructure, something that's over quickly would serve to both a) make a point that their ilk will not be suffered any longer and b) that anyone who is aiding them is an enemy of the protectors of the Constitution.

I just hope that it'll be more along the lines of what you've entertained here. If so, then we may have a partial reset that's just enough to get us back to a point where wanton violence in the streets over criminals being shot by police is quickly forgotten.
