More than a few times, I rode to school with my .22 slung over my shoulder... and kept the rifle in my locker to boot. Massachusetts (moved since by the grace of KEK)... Jimmy Carter era.

Hunting season meant a few shotties stacked up in the principal's office.

Elder Pede here. Can Confirm.

I graduated from high school in 1969, in Wyoming.

I was on the competitive rifle team. We had our own indoor shooting range in the school basement.

yep -

in 1980, in Ohio - my school Rifle Team took their last shots...

Sad day.

I did train Boy Scouts for a while.

If you are looking for a great Rifleman class - that is cheap, runs 2 days over a weekend - and you learn with gun in hand 'on the line' the whole time....

I recommend https://appleseedinfo.org/

great for kids - or grandkids! Best weekend you will have with family and friends.

America is 'A Nation of Riflemen.'

The most fun I had in high school! Some of my fondest memories were on the gun range. People thought I was dumb for not going out for football. They didn't know that some dude with blond hair and a time machine told me this skill would be needed in the future. Guess who's laughing now? Huh? Guess who's laughing now?!?!

This pic is from New York City. Unthinkable in today's NYC. But I'll bet Trump remembers this New York.

Many schools had gun clubs, taught gun safety and some schools even had onsite rifle ranges.
