I can tell you for a fact as a Cattle Rancher we are continually dealing with exploration companies wanting access to our land due to the Gas & Oil reserves ,l know for a fact we have a large mine able reserve of Rare earth minerals on our own Ranch that was discovered with only preliminary exploration .
Coal and petroleum are Montana's leading mined products as well as gold, silver, copper and lead & as stated exploration is now showing large reserves of the highly sought after & valuable Rare earth minerals.From our own experience we have only had exploration companies wanting access to our land for the Rare earth deposits over the last 3 years so much bigger deposits will no doubt be found.
It's not self sufficient. There are too many farms/farmers/mills/ bakeries. Too many oil fields, refineries, pipelines. (damn BAKKAN) Too many cattle farms. Too much open land.
