I really enjoyed reading your first-hand account. Have only been to MT once, but remember thinking what a joy it would be to live in those gorgeous open spaces.
It is weird but when l was serving in Afghanistan ,l did a couple of tours as the Squad Designated Marksman, so we would sit up in the Mountains at night alone on Overwatch in the pitch black & looking up at the silhouette of the Mountains & the clear starry sky used to make me feel happy & feel relaxed because it reminded me so much of home .Mean while you had a huge SNAFU as far as the eye could see before you & some scumbag down below you were going to Kill or Capture the next day & the “Ten-Dollar Talib” trying to pinpoint where we were to kill you,
Sorry, but that is post card knowledge. I wonder if you would really live in wide open spaces without a few lights on all night? (most people that I know that moved here don't. Now, can't see shit of the sky)
How close would you want/need your closest neighbor to be?
Think the state is conservative? Think again and why. Farmers associations that go back decades, miners that were brought up against the Army during World Wars.
The few that come from other states only reinforce those that aren't conservative as we know it. Of course there are the college "students" and the towns in which they are housed. Easy living for them, so why not promote socialism?
