I have some neighbours who are German. They fled when it was segregated. They have that flag and while I never learned the full context of why, quite hated split and later reunified Germany.

Its more symbolic. As a member of the Western world that doesn't live in a country with quite the civil rights that you are blessed with, I can understand the sentiment.
It's the same reason Hong Kong people fly the USA flag, or during tje Arab spring etc. While couched in language and phrasing a bit on the nose. The context of people flying the USA flag who are not American is a call to arms and symbolism of what we'd dearly love.
But as we live in "largely free" countries our countrymen never quite see the importance of rallying for a full set of civil rights like the Bill pf rights you all enjoy. At least until they are fucked over by them.
I can understand flying the American flag. I loved seeing it in Hong Kong. She’s a symbol of hope and freedom for all men—but naming Trump directly in that banner....might be a bridge too far.

All due respect, I believe our moral obligation to the western world was fulfilled during WW2. It’s their turn to take care of themselves. They have not proven themselves to be good friends as noted by the international deep state spying (which I firmly believe happened). If the citizens, pardon me, “subjects “ want freedom, then they need to show the same fortitude our founding fathers did. We provided a way for them-it’s called the Constitution but it’s up to them to determine their own fate. To ask us to do things for them that they won’t do for themselves is morally wrong.
