I don’t think the comment was referring to their morality, ethics or beliefs. It’s pointing out the impact a parent has. In this case one son is clearly being raised to be physically healthy and the other is not.
That’s not the point. The point is that one is properly disciplined while the other is not. One clearly has a sense of self control, while the other does not. It shows the importance of fathers being part of the child rearing process, and why single motherhood is so bad for kids.
Children need to be raised by both. The problems of a single father raising a boy are less visible. Young men need someone that can strongly empathize with them, men instinctively go to "how do we solve this problem," rather than "how can we understand this problem."

A lot of the time this kind of discussion doesn't go anywhere because people don't understand the details of what it means to grow up without either parent, they think that the values and mindset you learn from your father are literally taught, verbally, when it's more just copied behaviour and demonstrable action that can be replicated.
They think that the mother can pass on these things by teaching, but it's not that easy and men and women are different, which they don't understand.
