They said it would have been easier to keep people from using it, if they told them an evil spirit lives in the well and making them sick.

The day of the lesson came. All they asked about, is when the food would come out. They received lectures about contraception, how to know when food was cooked, why brushing teeth mattered. But the best part, was the lesson on washing hands. He led them outside, where each person was stood in front of two large buckets of water. He explained the purpose of washing hands, and then led them through the process. First, they got their hands wet in one bucket, and each was given a bit of soap, and instructed to rub their hands together to lather them up. Next, they were told to dip their hands in the other bucket (the clean water) to rinse their hands off. Voila! Your hands are clean! ...Noticing that their hands were now wet, each of them, without stopping to think for a millisecond began to rub their hands in the dirt at their feat to dry them off.

Buy them off in foreign aid, if they step out of line, send the military in; if they want to make a go of it alone, that’s fine - if they want to invite Chinese weasels in, that should be a no go.
I have a family friend who works for an organization that teaches farming in Africa. One of the things they emphasize in their training is not to offer free stuff, even little things, because then people just come out for what they can get.
So let me see if I got this right.

3 Africa starts to return to the stone age.
4 Western Civilization is taxed to keep Africa from returning to the stone age.

This is surprisingly a very bad idea. Foreign aid is an investment that benefits the US more than the recipient of the aid. Other nations, especially many in Africa are very corrupt and if you want access to their resources you need to pay them off. Consider it the price of doing business.

Much of the aid that went to Africa wasn't from the government, it was from non profits who get their cash from suckers who fall for the "Feed the Children" crap which, like many such charities only feeds the people who run it.
When we do send aid it's usually in the form of food, like cheese, which is actually overstock the government buys from dairy farmers here in the US so technically the aid is staying here.
When we need resources, like rare earths, then we have to buy off the corrupt guys over there. Business is business.

One look at Chyna's infliltration of African market proves it. Good will is part of the business of international negotiations.
