They can be surprisingly clever and yes, tough. Even the domesticated ones will ruin your day. Most funny thing I ever saw was the day the turkeys got loose at the local livestock auction; Amish running everywhere to get away from the turkeys.
When gun season opens you do, but honestly, I wear it during the whole season while hunting the wildlife management areas as you can never be certain what some other hunter is going to do.

Depends on the state and the season/animal being hunted.
For example, California doesn’t need orange for any type of big game hunting.
But the woods are full of dumbass Californians with CA legal guns. Might want orange. Hunt with lead, and you get to wear orange in the state pen.

Turkeys are assholes. I’ve never hunted them but ran into flocks Of them during fall and the males will straight up rush your ass
