Many people are not willing to believe God has such a "right' to decree someone as "hated" or lost. But there you have it, right in the Bible. God will have mercy on whom he will have mercy...

I attend a Reformed church, which I encourage you to explore. We believe the Bible is actually God's Word. Far too many churches waffle on this key Doctrine. We also believe that those whom God has chosen as His will respond to the Gospel, and put their faith in Christ. Jesus will not let one of His sheep be lost. BUT, those who are not His will NOT respond to the Gospel, and will be lost. It's as simple as Esau refusing his birthright, as Ferrous stated, below.
