Should a person shoot even if pulling a gun immediately de-escalates the situation? Or should they wait until a baseball bat is already in motion toward their face?

The cop in this video also pulled his gun. Should he have shot as well?

The point is you should only pull out a gun if you feel your life is in danger, and if your life is in danger, you should shout your attacker.

That’s the law - I don’t make the rules. If you don’t shoot, then the book gets thrown at you for pulling a gun when you didn’t really think that your life was in danger.

Yes, and don't pull the trigger unless there's immediate deadly threat. You can fear for you life, pull a gun intending to use it and immediately find nobody wants you to have a reason to use it anymore. It looks like this is the case.
