As I’ve mentioned before, my Grandpa was stationed in Europe (Germany and France) during WW2. While we aren’t clear on the details, this 1914 Mauser was a souvenir he brought home, along with two magazines. I like to think he took it from a Nazi officer who had committed atrocities against innocent people.

The basket was made by my grandma. I figured they belonged together.

EDIT: This is my first sticky ever, and I’m so proud to dedicate it to my amazing grandparents, who fought for this country and instilled in us pride, integrity, and patriotism. MAGA!

Very, very nice. I have my father's WWII service revolver, a Smith and Wesson 38 special.

Me too! His .38 special is in the safe, but I’ll dig it out next week. Exact same make and model, I bet. I’ve got the leather holster he carried too.

I really want to post the double barreled shotgun to see if anybody knows what it is. Supposedly that’s from WW1.

That’s awesome! I hope you find it. My grandpa’s WW2 memorabilia are my prized possessions. The Mauser, the S&W .38 special, the officer’s trunk, and a few of the letters he wrote to my great-grandma.

That is too cool! My father was lucky, he was the best shot in his class so he got to stay at 29 Palms and be a small arms and rifle instructor while my uncles all went overseas.

I'd love to see the shotgun. My grandmother was born in 1897, and she had an old, old double barreled shotgun that she kept leaning up in a corner of her bedroom.

Wow, can't have been many of those made, and far less survived.

This is my first post since joining yesterday, so we have a little bit in common. Your grandfather was a hero, and I hope he took that Mauser off a dead Nazi officer. I don't know if you were lucky enough to know your grandparents. I wasn't. I was born in '47, and they were all gone by the end of '46. I always felt I missed a lot as a kid growing up in the 50's by not having them around.

That’s tough. I got to know all but one of my grandparents (my mom’s dad died when I was a baby). I loved them fiercely and they taught us a lot about how to be good and thriving people.

Welcome home, friend! We are glad to have you here.
