Something I don't see people talking about much is the fact that kids were in the car he was getting into. Not to mention that it is a deadly weapon, and he had a knife. If those cops had let him get into the vehicle, he would have then been endangering those children. He could've driven off, getting into a pursuit, or put the officers in a position where they had to fire into the vehicle not knowing where the kids were. They waited till the last possible instant to stop him and protect those kids. Jacob had no concern for their safety.
