I've always said that 4chan was never that good at trolling nor investigations. Very overrated website that was self-promoted by the idiots who frequent it and the journalists who believe 4chan's constant claims of being "based."
Here's another thing: when the Sandy Hook Loot Crew was trolling on twitter, the GNAA guys HATED the 4chan guys because the GNAA guys had their entire profiles pretending to be black looters, including their avatars and post history. 4channers started to adopt the antics while not changing their anime avatars. Do you think journalists, even as stupid as they are, are going to believe that a bunch of black looters have anime avatars?

4chan is good for images and sometimes hilarious stuff like the HWNDU antics, but in the end their ability to influence politics usually comes from other people and the credit is assigned to them.
It's because it was too effective and based so they had to subvert it. With the manpower and resources it is very easy to control and manipulate an anonymous message board. 4chan today is not the 4chan pre 2015 or even 2017

You do realize your same analysis -- the problems of anonymity versus psuedoanonymity (which is what we have here) -- is something I, in the past, constantly got bitched at by channers telling me I was wrong? Well my point was proven: on such a message board you can't determine who is saying what, and how reliable an individual poster may be. That's not good when you're young and/or new to right-wing non-mainstream politics, although we are mainstream now that was not the case 5 years ago.
Regardless, channers got most of their information from other message boards (and blogs) and brought it to 4chan. Nobody sane is going to be posting on a poorly-designed image macro dump site where they are called "faggot" all the time while the channers are pretending they're geniuses at internet eugenics when in reality it just comes across as moronic. Why do you think this website has far more traffic than fucking voat?
Anyways, with the website here I finally got what I always hoped for since 2015: a news + meme dump in forum/reddit format.
