I recommend Youtube-DLG. Seems to work on any video service, not just Youtube. It has been bullet proof for me. The couple times it has failed, I just told it to look for an update. Worked fine after that.
If you are using a chromium browser get the "Allow Right-Click" chrome web store browser extension. It is a wonderful tool for many embedded items (doesn't work for a few things like twitter, facebook, or twitter videos).

You can also use JDownloader which downloads anything from anywhere.
