You go in your polling location, sign in at a table and they take you to a voting machine where they get the machine ready to accept your vote. After you select all the candidates you want to vote for, you then get a hard copy of the ballot from the machine and go put it in a box. The last election was the first time I'd seen the hard copy thing though. Previous years they had been ignoring the law that says there has to be a hard copy.

I keep a loaded gun on me (or in my close proximity) nearly every second of the day. Even if I'm alone in my house, there's likely a loaded pistol on stand with my wallet and car keys or - if I really need it - a loaded AR I keep in my bedroom ready to go (no safe, just the case - that's my "time to get the fuck out of Dodge" backup). I'm to a point where I'm starting to consider having a long gun in my car because I really feel like a pistol wouldn't promise me safety should a full on riot break out and I get stuck in the middle of a commute during it.
All that said, I NEVER flash this stuff around and even ask that people that do know I carry don't mention it or bring it up. I make sure my carry doesn't print and I'd take every possible measure to ensure violence isn't escalated before having to make the final action. It's not something I take lightly, but it's sadly something I've recently seen as necessary.
