If you watch the video the people that attacked him were not even looked at. The cops tackled dude as soon as he drew his gun but didn't do dick up until that point.

Yeah be like Florida... cops don’t do shit until you decide to defend yourself and they also let your attackers go

Rainman 14 points ago +15 / -1

This is pretty disturbing that they took the person defending himself into custody. How is that remotely reasonable?

They're all about their dental plan and pension benefits.

That's great, but if the fuckwit police had done their jobs properly they would've arrested the people assaulting him instead.

Proud_American 15 points ago +16 / -1

Shit, he de-escalated the situation entirely with that pistol. Cops shoulda just stayed away entirely instead of jumping in when he brought out the equalizer. Those pigs were gonna let him get wrecked.

Or worse, you could have had Officer Doofy on that day, seen the guy with the gun and just started blasting him.

The truth is that you should expect to get arrested whenever you draw your gun. It only makes sense so that the police can properly investigate the situation.

But people should realize there's a difference between getting arrested, getting charged, and getting convicted.

Florida man did everything right.

He pulled his gun to defend himself.

He deescalated the situation.

He properly surrendered to the authorities who were there not only to protect the mob, but also protect him from the mob.

Getting him out of that situation was the best course of action.

Should the police have acted sooner?

Absolutely, but they also can't be everywhere. It's entirely possible they weren't aware of the situation until the mob started crying out "gun".

All in all, glad to see Florida man stood his ground and responded properly to the mob and the police.

You see the part where police had their own guns drawing down on the guy? That’s ok though right? But you a mere citizen having to draw down on violent terrorists? Please bend over and know you will be arrested. Right?

He did it wrong. Don't draw unless you intend to discharge. If one of those fucks was armed, they're justified in shooting him for brandishing.

Get educated on your state laws and the laws of any state which you may traverse while armed.

3
AtariArtist 3 points ago +3 / -0

Stand your ground doesn't work that way. As soon as he was pushed to the ground and punched, he was being attacked.

Lethal weapons aren't a factor (or even makes sense as a response when you can't fucking see them because you're being mobbed).

Facts > Feels

I guess the AK LARPer brandishing which was wrecked by a pistol isn't evidence of this.

You don't draw a weapon unless you intend to use it. Any firearms self defense course will teach you it's not a deterrent, it's a threat eliminator and that same course will cover your state laws, including a duty to retreat, etc.

I’m thrilled to hear this. I watched the video and thought he was justified. I was disappointed in the police for disarming and arresting him when it looked like they saw what happened.

Regardless, a great win for law abiding people everywhere.

Florida Man is our secret weapon, to be honest.

Now they can review the video and arrest the D-bags that jumped him.

The officers should have intervened before a firearn was required.

1
cheesecakelove 1 point ago +1 / -0

How do we know they didn’t just arrive? I mean let’s not be Reddit and judge without context.

1
Hillary-Digs-a-Hole 1 point ago +1 / -0

From when the fight broke out and the police walked up from different directions was 17 seconds. They didn't "just arrived". They were standing right there. There wasn't police intervention until the gun was drawn.

2
SentryS 2 points ago +2 / -0

Why was it a requirement the man had to defend himself with his weapon IN FRONT OF POLICE?

2
anonanomous 2 points ago +3 / -1

Florida, where cops will run at you with guns drawn putting your life in immediate danger should any cop think you’re a threat to them because you had to defend yourself from terrorists with your firearm.

I don’t see this event as all that favorable. The guy should sue that city.

2
cheesecakelove 2 points ago +2 / -0

Do you think the cops knew what was going on or did they see a fight break out and then a dude draw his weapon?

You guys are all acting like these cops are mind readers and should just KNOW he was good guy with a gun.

They did the right thing.

Did you see the cops rush in to stop and arrest the violent rioters? No? Huh weird. You’re an idiot.

Defending himself from assault and battery...in front of police.

Did nothing until he pulled. Shameful!

Was gonna say turn in your badges but that would leave a job to fill by 0bamas Brownshirts.

Tug that sack and get ‘em to drop!! Do your fuc***g job!!

It's great he wont face charges but if the cops saw what happened why weren't any of the agitators arrested?
