Talking to my girlfriend the other day, I know we should have started this months ago but we decided its time to start doing some preparation in case things go pear-shaped come November. She's onboard with food / water / etc prep, but I'm more concerned in case things get hot. I have a few rifles, a couple shotguns, and some pistols that my father left me. But I'm not sure what kind of armor to get

You have to be fighting someone capable of hitting your armor. I love the idea of armor but the fact is a bad shooter is just as likely to hit you in the leg arm or head if they are just spraying rounds at you. Invest that money in ammo. Just my thoughts.
best thing is to just not get hit at all but your limbs getting hit is much more preferably than anywhere near your torso where your organs are. body armor is very necessary, but its quite difficult to get something like that at this point. I ordered armor 4 months ago when this shit all started and I only recently received it
Yes body armor is a great thing. If you are fighting someone that aims and knows what they are doing with a gun. Most people train to hit center mass. The problem I'm stating is that these people for the most part will not train for that and are more likely to hit outside of center mass. You have major arteries in your thighs that will have you bleeding out just as fast as a hit to the torso. Yes your organs are vital, you are not wrong. Im just offering another aspect or view on resource use in a depleted market.
