Given the echo chambers that people live in, it is easy. Many factors are reducing the opportunity for civil discourse while at the same time increasing the amount of content for people in the bubble. Just look at your own media consumption, in the 1990s we were mostly limited to conservative AM talk radio and gun show related communication. You might have heard some non-msm material at the gun range. We didn’t have a private place to discuss online, so all communication was necessary in person and had to adhere to some boundaries of civility. Those conversations were necessarily going to have viewpoints from multiple sides and the extended length of the interaction prompted critical thinking about what was being said.
Today, I actively avoid talking politics even with people I’m pretty sure agree with me, just because my work life would be much more difficult being outed behind enemy lines. I’m sure there are liberal forums similar to this one, but I would be run out even if civil and rationally discussing topics.

Even our local newspaper is doing this. They operate as a shield for local Democrats and a weapon against their political opponents. They are currently in the process of smearing and doxxing the prominent Republican political activists and donors in our town, all on the front page of the newspaper. I have friends who are justifiably in fear for their lives due to this action by the newspaper. One conservative local business owner has already been intimidated into dropping out of the city council race here after receiving death threats and having his home and vehicles vandalized by Democrats.
Most people are exposed to a lot less meaningful news. 30 years ago the national networks had well produced national news and even local news ran well researched syndicated pieces. Print and TV news was decimated by the inability to get a decent slice of the sweet sweet online ad revenue pie. More media options also meant that you weren’t stuck with what the major tv networks were playing.
The most patriotic thing someone could do in this decade is to figure out how to run a great journalism operation with costs and revenue that don’t compromise the integrity of the operation yet yield a nice profit. My bet would be on a company doing something similar to what Apple had been experimenting with on Apple news+. Maintain a strong subscription revenue stream and ensure higher value targeted ads that don’t betray your privacy.
Technology definitely makes it much easier to get constituent parts of journalism at a lower cost. Anyone can get tons of cspan content or live streams of major events without expending massive amounts of cash to physically be present. What we’re not getting is the deeper cuts of journalists asking great questions. The White House press briefings just make me want to smash in the screen because of the completely repetitive and useless questions only there to trigger the person on the podium to make a sound byte. Compilation of stories can now be done mostly remotely from lower cost areas. Getting paid by advertisers without being held hostage and from subscribers is the next trick.
Advertising is an incredibly shitty and inefficient way of funding. Not only that, it breaks the model that someone wanting a service is the one to pay for it, distorting the incentive model (see current_date). Hopefully we can get to fully subscriber funded in time.

Given the echo chambers that people live in, it is easy. Many factors are reducing the opportunity for civil discourse while at the same time increasing the amount of content for people in the bubble. Just look at your own media consumption, in the 1990s we were mostly limited to conservative AM talk radio and gun show related communication. You might have heard some non-msm material at the gun range. We didn’t have a private place to discuss online, so all communication was necessary in person and had to adhere to some boundaries of civility. Those conversations were necessarily going to have viewpoints from multiple sides and the extended length of the interaction prompted critical thinking about what was being said.
Today, I actively avoid talking politics even with people I’m pretty sure agree with me, just because my work life would be much more difficult being outed behind enemy lines. I’m sure there are liberal forums similar to this one, but I would be run out even if civil and rationally discussing topics. 30 years ago we would be discuss the topics at happy hour.

Even our local newspaper is doing this. They operate as a shield for local Democrats and a weapon against their political opponents. They are currently in the process of smearing and doxxing the prominent Republican political activists and donors in our town, all on the front page of the newspaper. I have friends who are justifiably in fear for their lives due to this action by the newspaper. One conservative local business owner has already been intimidated into dropping out of the city council race here after receiving death threats and having his home and vehicles vandalized by Democrats.
Most people are exposed to a lot less meaningful news. 30 years ago the national networks had well produced national news and even local news ran well researched syndicated pieces. Print and TV news was decimated by the inability to get a decent slice of the sweet sweet online ad revenue pie. More media options also meant that you weren’t stuck with what the major tv networks were playing.
The most patriotic thing someone could do in this decade is to figure out how to run a great journalism operation with costs and revenue that don’t compromise the integrity of the operation yet yield a nice profit. My bet would be on a company doing something similar to what Apple had been experimenting with on Apple news+. Maintain a strong subscription revenue stream and ensure higher value targeted ads that don’t betray your privacy.
Tim Pool has hinted he wants to head in that direction. Sargon too. How attainable that is, I don't know but worth keeping an eye on.
Technology definitely makes it much easier to get constituent parts of journalism at a lower cost. Anyone can get tons of cspan content or live streams of major events without expending massive amounts of cash to physically be present. What we’re not getting is the deeper cuts of journalists asking great questions. The White House press briefings just make me want to smash in the screen because of the completely repetitive and useless questions only there to trigger the person on the podium to make a sound byte. Compilation of stories can now be done mostly remotely from lower cost areas. Getting paid by advertisers without being held hostage and from subscribers is the next trick.
Advertising is an incredibly shitty and inefficient way of funding. Not only that, it breaks the model that someone wanting a service is the one to pay for it, distorting the incentive model (see current_date). Hopefully we can get to fully subscriber funded in time.
Apple’s direction for ad targeting is device-side that isn’t tied to a particular site and doesn’t track you in servers they own. That lack of a tracking mechanism makes it hard to extort/cancel content providers through ad revenue streams because the advertisers have less control.

I have no doubt it's news to most redditors that Trump has been condemning violence and offering ways to stop it since months, since the very beginning.
Because when anyone posts anything contrary, they see the word "Trump" and everything goes red as they click the downvote button. Then they wake up in a pool of their own urine.
If the Democrats thought people would believe it they'd say Trump eats babies for breakfast. I honestly don't understand how anyone can live with themselves after concocting lie after lie as prolifically as the Democrats do. It's like they lie every day as natural as breathing. It's their superpower. Lying & smearing is just about all they do. They are the ultimate Machiavellians - do whatever they need to do to stay in power no matter how unethical, how immoral, how sleazy, how disgusting, how unpatriotic, how evil - they are capable of doing absolutely anything, which includes sacrificing America to China, killing Americans, and even assassinating leaders they don't like. If Trump wins, you can bet they'll try, same as they did after Lincoln was re-elected.
I was looking for a pattern. I haven't heard of any assassination attempts yet, but he's a prime candidate. There's a whole lot of Celebrities who've threatened to. They should all be in jail.

Show clips of Trump condemning the violence and offering to stop it, with a calendar showing the dates flipping by. Then show a similar example of Biden's bullshit, his team bailing our rioters and so on, ending with him "condemning" the violence.
Easy response: "If Sleepy Joe hadn't spent the last 6 months in his basement he'd know I've condemned the riots every day from the very beginning. Maybe he just forgot."

What I do want to know -- is why Trump hasn't repealed some of the media protection. (Like that whole law where news doesn't really have to be 'news' anymore), the merging of conglomerate media organizations that then have blanket immunity?
The only thing I can come to conclude is that he must think that they ultimately help him, by being so ridiculously negative all the time and giving him air time.

Even IF Trump hadn't condemned it, these are NEVER-TRUMP supporters, liberals, ANTIFA and Biden voters, why would they listen to Trump if he asked them to stop?
The real question (that will never be asked or admitted to by lying media) is, why do the mayors and governors refuse federal assistance when its been offered by Trump since day 1?
