No, they shouldn't do this. There is absolutely no legal basis for this at all, and he will lose for sure if he tries to sue for defamation over this. You can call someone a white supremacist outright, and it's not defamation because they can think that you are. You'd have to prove that they knew what they were saying was untrue to have any legal basis, and the standards for that are extremely high.

No, he can't. You will not win that libel suit. You'd have to prove he actually knew the statement was untrue to win. And since it's actually his opinion that you are a white supremacist, it's impossible to win, even if he outright calls you one. And in this case it's suspected white supremacist. As long as he suspects it, he's fine to say it. Why do you think all the media gets away with this stuff constantly? That's how the courts are ruling. As to the legal reasoning why this is, I can't really tell you because I'm not a lawyer, but this is how things go.
This would backfire majorly in many different ways in my opinion. But of course, I'm not a lawyer, so consult one instead of me. I just listen to lawyers talk about this stuff online, and they all say this. Libel is very hard to prove in general, and a statement like this is basically impossible to be considered libel because of the qualifier of suspected. Even if that qualifier wasn't there, I still don't think you'd ever win. If you could, the media wouldn't say these things. There would be greedy lawyers all over the country/planet frothing at the mouth at the idea of suing these media companies for millions. And therefore the media companies would never say these things for fear of being sued in to oblivion.

But I think ultimately the problem is that this was not stopped earlier. This accusation should hold no weight, and the root of the problem is cultural. So I really think this is an ugly symptom of a cultural cancer, and we should focus on curing the cancer.
