The NFL is likely in a fixed multi year licensing contract with networks. While in the contract, these antics affect ad revenue for the networks since fewer eyes are going to be watching. Hopefully, the NFL takes a financial hit when contract renewal time comes. You also need to remember the NFL owns the players, so wherever you see a player being marketed, the NFL is likely getting a cut. So they are heavily diversified.
