I'm white not that that should matter but turns out there are people of literally every race that can't afford it and most of the charities for getting people in aren't exactly for white people.
The cost for training that will get you to the pros is one of the highest in sports. It has nothing to do with racism. The biggest factor driving up cost has to do with the cost of maintaining a quality playing surface. Basketball courts, baseball fields, tracks, and football fields are dirt cheap compared to hockey rinks, golf courses, and swimming pools.

I’m very involved in the competitive swimming world and I see the same thing happen there. Any time a black swimmer gets to a high level, some major newspaper will want to interview them. The interview will have nothing to do with their training or anything related to swimming fast. It will purely be about what it’s like to be a black swimmer. It’s the most demeaning shit I have ever seen. I’ve worked closely with a few black coaches and they despise that everyone tries to make a big deal out of their race.

I was so sad to see this spread to the NHL. Particularly because it's only a handful of Canadian players forcing this on everyone (i.e. the woman abuser Evander Kane and Wild Defenseman Matt Dumba). A sport I would watch every night, regardless of the teams playing, has not had a single second of my viewership since the first knee was taken. I will not be renewing my Center Ice for next season either, and I encourage all of you to do the same.
I looked the other way when the playoffs started because I just missed hockey and my team was finally in the playoffs. They were shilling the whole "racial injustice" thing pretty hard, but it seemed to largely disappear after that first night with the exception of the slogans in the corners of the rink. However, I cut them some slack since they didn't explicitly endorse the BLM org to my knowledge (could be wrong here).
Once they postponed the games on Aug 27th & 28th I immediately called it quits. Haven't watched a single minute, haven't even checked the scores (I'm sure they also monitor google/social media trends). This is the only way we can hopefully influence their decisions - if they see a sharp decline in viewership/interest they may take a different approach next time.
If they clean up their act I will resume watching next season, but until then I won't support them even though it was a big part of my normal entertainment (not big into movies or TV).

The NFL is supposed to start in less than 2 weeks and there is very little hype and excitement for the season. I used to get excited in the weeks leading up to the season, but now couldn't care less if they even had one. Good luck putting on an exciting product worth watching with little or no fans in the stand. Will be like a scrimmage imo. Having 60-80k fans in the stands is not an atmosphere that can be replicated with fake fan noise and a bunch of fans on screens. It may somewhat work in the NBA, but will be a huge fail in NFL imo.

Not sure where you are, but in Minnesota they allowed checking at the peewee level until a year or two before my oldest son was in peewees. So I am going to say until around 2011, give or take a year. My son went up as the first peewees unable to check, which really does change the game.

I've been talking to a lot of die hard Alabama fan in the football capital of the world about what they are going to do if COVID shuts down the session. Most of them mention they will miss things like having people over for the game, or tailgating. Nobody has said they will miss watching the game.
The game isn't the main draw, it just an excuse to get excited about something and have a party. If Major league sport isn't careful people will realize this and realize how easily sports could be replaced by something else.

I bought a bunch of wax worms for him and he figured out how to bait his own hook. He caught 87 fish (all little, we threw them back) and had such a great time! He still loves fishing today.

I'm white not that that should matter but turns out there are people of literally every race that can't afford it and most of the charities for getting people in aren't exactly for white people.
The cost for training that will get you to the pros is one of the highest in sports. It has nothing to do with racism. The biggest factor driving up cost has to do with the cost of maintaining a quality playing surface. Basketball courts, baseball fields, tracks, and football fields are dirt cheap compared to hockey rinks, golf courses, and swimming pools.

I’m very involved in the competitive swimming world and I see the same thing happen there. Any time a black swimmer gets to a high level, some major newspaper will want to interview them. The interview will have nothing to do with their training or anything related to swimming fast. It will purely be about what it’s like to be a black swimmer. I was so sad to see this spread to the NHL. Particularly because it's only a handful of Canadian players forcing this on everyone (i.e. the woman abuser Evander Kane and Wild Defenseman Matt Dumba). A sport I would watch every night, regardless of the teams playing, has not had a single second of my viewership since the first knee was taken. I will not be renewing my Center Ice for next season either, and I encourage all of you to do the same.
I looked the other way when the playoffs started because I just missed hockey and my team was finally in the playoffs. They were shilling the whole "racial injustice" thing pretty hard, but it seemed to largely disappear after that first night with the exception of the slogans in the corners of the rink. However, I cut them some slack since they didn't explicitly endorse the BLM org to my knowledge (could be wrong here).
Once they postponed the games on Aug 27th & 28th I immediately called it quits. Haven't watched a single minute, haven't even checked the scores (I'm sure they also monitor google/social media trends). This is the only way we can hopefully influence their decisions - if they see a sharp decline in viewership/interest they may take a different approach next time.
If they clean up their act I will resume watching next season, but until then I won't support them even though it was a big part of my normal entertainment (not big into movies or TV).
They really messed up by creating that diversity group following the Bill Peters thing in Calgary. Now those guys are calling the shots, and the league is bending the knee to their demands. Foolishness.

The NFL is supposed to start in less than 2 weeks and there is very little hype and excitement for the season. I used to get excited in the weeks leading up to the season, but now couldn't care less if they even had one. Good luck putting on an exciting product worth watching with little or no fans in the stand. Will be like a scrimmage imo. Having 60-80k fans in the stands is not an atmosphere that can be replicated with fake fan noise and a bunch of fans on screens. It may somewhat work in the NBA, but will be a huge fail in NFL imo.

Not sure where you are, but in Minnesota they allowed checking at the peewee level until a year or two before my oldest son was in peewees. So I am going to say until around 2011, give or take a year. My son went up as the first peewees unable to check, which really does change the game.

Not a big sports guy myself, but I feel like that let's me see this from the outside in.
I've been talking to a lot of die hard Alabama fan in the football capital of the world about what they are going to do if COVID shuts down the session. Most of them mention they will miss things like having people over for the game, or tailgating. Nobody has said they will miss watching the game.
The game isn't the main draw, it just an excuse to get excited about something and have a party. If Major league sport isn't careful people will realize this and realize how easily sports could be replaced by something else.

I’m a huge sports fan, and with the rona lockdowns — I was excited to finally get them back.
Unfortunately, they have overstepped with the virtue signaling and manufactured outrage that now I refuse to watch. I love my baseball and basketball, but my respect for this nation, our flag, our LE and military is worth boycotting for.
If their reasons for protesting were grounded with logic and truth, then I would understand. However, its based on manipulation, impulsive outrage and pushing an agenda for promoting a party who are exactly what they say they hate.
I'm buying a fishing pole for me and my kid for sundays instead of watching NFL. I don't have the first clue about it, but the money will be better spent and we'll get to learn something together.

I bought a bunch of wax worms for him and he figured out how to bait his own hook. He caught 87 fish (all little, we threw them back) and had such a great time! He still loves fishing today.
