Ironically in this particular instance, French commies in the 60's-80's hated migrants. They were cheaper and more accepting of hazardous work than native workers - the bread and butter of the communist party - so they advocated against mass immigration as a tool for big business to crush the French proletariat and revocate its hard-won privileges with.
They've all long since turned into irredeemable faggots, needless to say. But their old voter base turned to the "far-right" (far-right in a French context just means "sensible conservative") and what was at the time Jean-Marie Le Pen's National Front.
