That was two years later. We have two months.

The point is that conventional wisdom about shooting Communists hurting re-election chances isn’t based in any evidence.

Evidence: Current Events.

That’s not how evidence works

You're taking an event that happened decades ago, two years before an election in an era where there was no "instant access" of the internet to almost every human being on the planet (where it can be manipulated into anti-Trump "DRUMPF IS HITLER!" pieces and repeated ad infinitum) , as your evidence of saying it doesn't hurt re-election chances.

Context matters, your "evidence" is not evidence.

How's this for evidence then?

The Kent State shootings occurred in May 1970. If you scroll down to Nixon's approval ratings, you'll see that there's no dip at all in his approval ratings around that time.

As for the media, you can bet your ass that the mainstream media demonized Nixon for the shootings, but the people saw through its lies even though there was no alternative media to bring them the truth back then. All people crave order and stability, even liberals, though they'll never admit it.

Again, you’re referring to approval ratings and public perception in a time before the internet and access to instant information and manipulation to the entire population. Back then you had newspapers, radio, a handful of TV channels shaping the entire public discourse and opinion. Now there are billions of websites, television shows and channels in an age of digital manipulation and false narratives that influence the public on a scale nobody could even imagine back then. This isn’t even including the fact that public attitudes and ideals have shifted in the almost 50 years since Kent State happened.

We can agree to disagree peacefully.
