I actually typed up a comment with my entire political history in campaigns, primaries and generals as concerns the Presidential election but I would end up doxxing myself.
Suffice it to say, I was one of those crazies railing against NAFTA and the Council of Foreign Relations back in the 1990's. I was almost constantly railroaded by my own party. I also consistently saw Republicans in Minnesota like Michelle Bachmann railroaded while "republicans" like Arne Carlson and Tim Pawenty were lauded. Turns my stomach!
You sound like someone who gets a lot of free drinks in exchange for stories. Bachmann was awesome and I think people started to see the impact of fake news through digital marketing at that time. You should find all those that worked in that circle and put together a collection of short stories. It would be a best seller.
I had a boss that wrote speeches for many politicians. He was very story telling but nothing funny or crazy. He was boring but gave you hope some good politicians existed.
There are good politicians. I know several but it's hard for them to get traction because too often, they're naive. Or sometimes, they get corrupted after winning a couple of times.
if you read David Marcus' article in the Federalist, it's spot on. RINOs were created by Bill Buckley's "Stand Athwart history yelling, STOP". That's been the ruling principle of most career politicians in the Republican party. It seems like a lame quote to most Republican and conservatives because they don't understand the meaning.

Hahahaha! I'm not a legislative assistant but I do have a lot of stories to tell, probably more than any legislative assisstant.
