I truly believe this is the unstated health crisis of the modern world.
I recently got interested in NoFap after I hit a new low during quarantine. As soon as you take a step back, it's really incredible to see how self destructive PMO (porn-masturbation-orgasm) is. It's the perfect way to destroy a man.
But no one talks about it. It's too dirty, too taboo. No one tells you to even moderate your jacking off unless they're some hard-core religious puritan.
I've read these productivity and self help books, that look at good and bad habits that predict success. I'm positive that the amount someone jerks off is a huge predictor of focus, productivity, and success, but no mass market author would dare to talk about it or even try to collect that data.
I mean I'd bet that most highly effective men masturbate very little. Bezos, Trump, Edison, Michael Jordan, Tom Cruise, etc. I'll bet they all jerk off far less than the average wage slave.
Is that because they have less time to do so because they're out doing other things, or because they have a wife to help take care of their sexual needs?
I mean, it's probable that since they already have a wife to have sex with they don't have to worry about masturbation that much, but if you aren't married yet is it that bad so long as you stay below a session a day? I guess it seems reasonable to masturbate on a daily basis (say, before showering or going to bed) for the average worker, whether male or female, as that seems like a mostly healthy level. But doing more than that on a consistent basis (as opposed to using a day off to see how many times you can orgasm in a day for whatever reason) would be a major hit to your effectiveness. If that makes sense.
Edit: I feel like I'm reading a lot of disapproval for masturbation in general in your post, as opposed to (as an extreme example) devoting all your spare time to the next moment you can rub out another orgasm. I think you mean the latter, not the former.
Masturbation in moderation when single should be a good thing--I think the once a day frequency I mentioned is at least a decent baseline to start with, and can be adjusted based on your own personal libido. And I don't feel like masturbation while married is bad, either--so long as you're not viewing porn or something while doing it. But personally, if you're masturbating more than 3 times a day consistent, or eschewing sex with your partner to masturbate instead, that is a serious problem.

You mean masturbate less or more? (or rather, less to porn, I guess?). Both in the moderation aspect and the predictor of focus and success aspect.
