The tip out % to the other people is based on the amount of the tabs, not on the tips received. Downside is that if you get bad tips, you still play the same amount (if you get stiffed, you essentially pay for those people to dine). Up side is that if you get great tips, you keep everything beyond what you were already paying out.

Ya I know. And every restaurant is different, too, in their tip out/tip share policies. I mostly worked for corporate chains, which all had many hands in the pot. Better believe, though, that my bussers hustled for me because they knew if they helped me flip my tables and pre-bus throughout meals, that they would be getting more than I had to give them. Then we all went home with extra cash.

Anyways, I know if I had a customer like that it would have been one of the highlights of my entire experience waiting tables. That kid will remember that night for the rest of his life. Love seeing stuff like this.
