That's it Pedes,
I just sent the letter to my landlord informing them I'm moving out in 30 days.
I'm a business owner, in fact my husband and I run 3 business in the "Golden State" (an ironic name now a days) We pay thousands of dollars in LLC fees alone, our electric bill is over $1200 a month for our small factory, We pay nearly half our income in taxes and we and our tax dollars are leaving this shithole.
It's bitter sweet for me, I was born and raised in California by a based family who loved this state, I'm old enough to remember when it was a purple state and still affordable for most people. I grew up in a nice house, half way between the mountains and the ocean. We spent summers swimming every day and winters snowboarding or off roading. It was a pretty ideal life for a working class family. Over the past 15 years I've watched our state slide into the gutter.
Unlike most Californians with goldfish memory I know the exact moment when our state tipped the scales into an unrecoverable spiral to hell it was when Californians passed Prop 14 in 2010. LET THIS BE A WARNING TO ALL LIBERTARIANS, TEA PARTY, CONSTITUTIONALIST OR ANY OTHER 3RD PARTY GROUPS. They sold this proposition to us as a way to "get third party candidates a chance to be on the ballot" They said if we passed this prop that we'd have more choice, we'd be able to cast our primary vote for a 3rd party and not feel like we "wasted" our vote. THEY LIED. What ended up happening is we got LESS choice, in most Californian elections THERE ARE NO REPUBLICANS ON THE BALLOT AT ALL, there are only democrats, no green party, no libertarians, just DNC approved puppets... how is this possible? Well prop 14 changed our primaries so there is only one ballot for the primaries and the top 2 vote getters by quantity move through to the final election. Previous to prop 14 we had the old style primary ballots, one for democrats and one for republicans where the winner of each primary would pass through to the final election. Yes it prevented third parties from winning but the solution was worse than the problem. Essentially they changed it from a republic style voting system to pure mob rule democracy, the cities ALWAYS out vote the suburbs and rural areas. THIS IS A MICROCOSM OF GETTING RID OF THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE. The worst part is no one remembers this prop, and a ton of people moved here after the prop passed and have no idea it even exists. They wonder why every politician is a democrat and don't have the sense enough to look into it.
Political amnesia, how could we ever hope to repeal such a "good sounding" prop... 'don't you want more choice in politics?' the left argues without looking at the results which only benefit DNC candidates.
So I hope other Cali pedes see this and realize the source of our problem, I hope pedes in other states see this and prevent it from happening in your state.
I'm ensuring I can vote Trump 2020 in my new state where my vote will actually count. Don't worry I'm sure as hell not bringing any Cali virus with me, fuck this states government. Besides my husband is from the state we're moving too so really he is just bringing home a new wifey he found while out on his late 20's viking raid.
Thank God, us based Lady Cali pedes need red state men to come rescue us, it's rough out here if you want a real man. I had to teach my college boyfriend how to light a pilot light for the love of pete!
This is all very familiar to me. Same situation, my family has been in California since before the gold rush. My grandma proudly proclaims she grew up in the Model City of Compton. It’s my home and heritage, and I know that this beautiful place has so much more than the horror stories that we hear. I moved out of state for college, and I always dreamed that I’d return. Now, I don’t know if I can take my family there in good conscience. The political class in that state are ensuring their hold over the state can’t be undone. The consolation is: you’re not alone. There’s more of us who mourn for our homeland. And second, the pioneering spirit is the spirit of the West. To boldly go to a new land, and build a new home there. And there’s plenty of opportunity across our great nation.
Beautifully written. 👏 The pioneering spirit is what I love about OG California, that do-it-your-self, gun slinging, wave surfing, do anything any time, innovative spirit! It's so attractive, which was it's downfall, once those pioneers tamed the west enough for timid east coasters and foreigners to move in, the culture was diluted beyond recognition. Now people act out the mythology of that old California but don't have the spirit.
It's so cool your family has been here that long! Not many families have. Mine came out in the 50's after my grandmother left her abusive alcoholic husband. She had nothing but her two boys and a car full of clothes but she ended up managing a store and building a great life in a little city that was surrounded by orange groves nick-named 'the hollywood of the east' called Pomona, which by the time I was a kid was the homicide capital of the inland empire... LOL how times change.
Don't come back, yet. All things have a life cylce, from bugs to humans to states, the California we knew is currently going through the death process. It may take a long time but it will be re-born again, perhaps we can retire back to our old stomping grounds when they are back to their former glory in the 2050s :)
Or sooner if they ever pull off the State of Jefferson. 🤞
