I made sure to listen in on the first day of zoom school today for this very reason. They passed.

Same here. I was like one of the edgy r/atheism teenagers and skipped the pledge as well. Now I'm as patriotic as anyone else on here

Same here! I blush to think of those days. Oh well. Up with Old Glory!

Or you can just pledge allegiance to... ... ... you know... ..... the thing.

Look here Fat, and I comply again with the new York times and the Washington post office was the last Islamic state of Connecticut wants the state employee of a few years to get a new place in the field.

One Nation Under Kek, fellow Pede!

1
TD_Covfefe_Crusader 1 point ago +2 / -1

Note that there is no comma after "one nation". It is all one statement:

One nation under God

We were taught this incorrectly as kids.

14
Smurfection 14 points ago +16 / -2

This is one of the most valuable things we can do to make patriots out of our little ones.

4
Faintlight 4 points ago +4 / -0

When I was in fifth grade, I had a great teacher who used to have us take turns being the leader of the pledge, and whoever was the leader also picked a patriotic song for the class to sing. It was great.

13
Internetoligarch 13 points ago +16 / -3

I'm an atheist and I have no problem saying under god. The change is from the left only and it is to chip away at what America is and what it stands for.

11
Fearmonger 11 points ago +12 / -1

I 2 am an atheist, I prefer the pre 1952 pledge, but I have other issues I care more about.

6
Internetoligarch 6 points ago +6 / -0

That's interesting. I didn't know it changed in 52 but I agree with you.

1
AmericanFreedom 1 point ago +2 / -1

Any teacher/school which is anti America can give up their human/civil rights and teach in China

-1
GnosticAwakening -1 points ago +4 / -5

I wish I was first taught that "God" is meaning the innate Light and Goodness within, rather than just a word used in religion

3
Internetoligarch 3 points ago +4 / -1

As for my background I was raised Lutheran and at church every weekend. As I got older i began to question what I was being told and I was always a good student in math and science. I have a master's degree in Mechanical engineering and I worked for NASA for a while before realizing the money was better and bureaucracy was less developed in the private sector. I can accept the word "God" to mean something people look up to or an all knowing all seeing deity. To me I accept God to mean the laws of science which are either made by this all knowing deity or just by the universe itself. Basically I accept god to be a larger and unwavering force that is over our heads.

2
ivan_iii_of_russia 2 points ago +3 / -1

You sound like Baruch Spinoza, a philosopher who essentially argued that god is a synonym for underlying nature or reality. More people should know about his ideas; he doesn't conflict with reality and determinism while advocating people accept and understand the world as it is.

Francis Bellamy was a commie. The Pledge is creepy when one learns it's history. It's hiding socialism in patriotism.

I'm teaching my kid the Constitution, Declaration of Independence, Federalist Papers, On Liberty.

4

Sad that i had to scroll this far down to find someone bringing this up.

2

2
mojavegreen 2 points ago +3 / -1

It still was an attempt to subvert the system from within, even if it failed at it's purpose. It's a commie tactic to take over cultural symbols and change their meaning. I think it's a creepy oath, knowing it's original purpose was to promote Christian socialism

2
George 2 points ago +3 / -1

Honestly, I agree. And to me it feels like another one of those things used to indoctrinate us. I am talking about in the schools of course. There just seems to be something wrong with making children pledge their allegiance to anything really.

7
Wfdeacon88 7 points ago +10 / -3

Going to start teaching this to my 3 year old tomorrow..he's already big-time Trump guy. Asked him last night randomly, what do you think about President Trump? He replied "We love President Trump. He protects us always." Then he proceeded to ask me if we could invite him over to play. I wish bud...I wish.

I highly recommend the animated TV show Liberty's Kids for anyone with children and teens. Accurate, highly entertaining/fascinating and FULL of love for America. It shows the entirety of the Revolutionary War, from The Boston Tea Party to Washington taking office. It's kid friendly, but doesn't gloss over the serious subjects and deaths.

My favorite show as a kid and all my friends as well! They now show it to their children. :)

5
PoohClimbsTrees 5 points ago +6 / -1

My former cult is the reason kids can't be forced to say it or to salute any more.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Virginia_State_Board_of_Education_v._Barnette

5
FearDaNazgulz 5 points ago +5 / -0

I'm so very glad you got out friend. I've talked with JWs, it's like speaking to a brick wall..how'd you get out of it?

6
PoohClimbsTrees 6 points ago +6 / -0

Got tired of hypocrites, and watching people lead double lives. Cost me 20 years of friends and all my family to escape. They hold people hostage with the threat of stunning (called Disfellowshipping) Most people can't handle that loss and stay in.

I have adult kids my parents have never met, I don't even know if my parents are still alive.

I still didn't realize it was a cult till years later when I broke the conditioning and did research from outside sources. Reddit actually had quite a community of exjw it is one of the few communities I miss from there. 90% of it buys into the MSM and were still rabid anti Trump though. Some people move from one cult to another.

Totally worth it to raise my kids free of that cult.

4
FearDaNazgulz 4 points ago +4 / -0

I bet your kids are glad too. So sad, I followed the ex-cult subs on reddit too. Lots of sad stories of abuse in cults. Do you have any advice on what to do, (or not do) inhelping a newly escaped person?

1
mateus 1 point ago +1 / -0

And yet teachers were leading kids in the pledge long after that decision.

3
PoohClimbsTrees 3 points ago +3 / -0

That is allowed. They just can't require them to participate (legally) if they have a religious objection.

My classrooms all did it. The JW kids either stood silently not saluting (I was taught to always stand out of respect) or left the room.

We had to leave for Birthday/holiday parties.

What we didn't do was force others to change how they behaved like many try to do today.

1
mateus 1 point ago +1 / -0

I'm well aware that it's allowed, and my response was to the poster who cited a 1943 SC decision as the reason students couldn't be forced to recite the pledge--when even decades after that, students were reciting it without issue.

5
Modus_Pwninz 5 points ago +6 / -1

Man, I'm ashamed to say...We had to do the pledge when I was a kid and I sat down like a shitbird because I didn't want anyone telling me what to do.

Now, I stand.

If I can take any solace at all, its that I've always been anti-authority and now, the authority wants me to hate my country, and I don't. I love this country and my head is on straight. I'll die for your kid's right to enjoy even half of the greatness I've been afforded.

Same even in commiefornia we did in the 90s. Not sure about today.

4

The Pledge of Allegiance is like multiplication tables. It's just something that you really ought to know and if you don't, then your school did a lousy job.

3
BackDoorSwizzle 3 points ago +3 / -0

Not only did we say the pledge in school as kids, but we sang this song right after

https://youtu.be/qjlty9dztw4

This was Brooklyn, NY in the late 70s.

1
slrpnls 1 point ago +1 / -0

We would sing in music class the Battle Hymn of the Republic all four verses of it.

In the beauty of the lilies
Christ was born across the sea,
With a glory in his bosom
That transfigures you and me:

As he died to make men holy,
let us die to make men free,
While God is marching on.

3

Yes, sir.

Bellamy was a creepy ass socialist. I can't get behind the Pledge. Proto-national socialist.

John Dewey is another socialist that really screwed up the American education system.

Most people don't realize that socialism crept into our country under Woodrow Wilson and the Progressives.

I bought my daughter a Little Golden Book called "Our Flag" It is surprisingly still in print despite being from 1960 (though you may want to get it now before the woke mob burns it). It tells kids the story about the flag (Betsy Ross, Fort McHenry etc.) and then goes into flag code. It ends with the Pledge of Allegiance. My daughter and I read the book together.

3
UnwokePatriot 3 points ago +3 / -0

When I went to public school, we stood for the pledge of allegiance every day, and "Under God" was still in the pledge. I miss the 90s.

Not gonna apologize for being American. This country was built by people with a dream and who sought a better life. That’s what America is about. It’s about hard work, personal responsibility and the belief in God who is greater then ourselves.

The past year has turned me back to the faith. We face great evil my fellow patriots. We must be good family members, friends and neighbors to combat the evil. The light will always beat the dark. Prepare physically and spiritually for what is ahead.

1

We recently started homeschooling our 7 and 8 year old.

We, as a family, do the Pledge of Allegiance. My kids call it our "America Prayer", because we usually start our morning with both prayers and the pledge.

While interviewing daycare people we landed on one who teaches numbers, letters, three letter words, prayers, the presidents, stats and capitals, and the pledge of allegiance.
