It's pretty simple: Airtight container (any will do) stored in a cool, dry, and dark place. If you're feeling fancy, add some silica gel packs in with the boolets. Should last you most or all of your life.
People pawn junk. The pawn shop where I go sells new stuff, also. Ammo is new, and sold in bulk. They also specialize in guns. They are licensed. Their guns are overpriced. But the ammo....
Have been using ammoseek.com. a few weeks ago managed to get 1000 rounds of 9mm Blazer brass for .29 per round, which I thought was very high, but now the cheapest there is .59 and up... This too shall pass, but kinda scary at this point.
My best bet has just been going to my local academy twice a week when their trucks come in. It's hit and miss what's available. I've been buying ammo for guns I've recently inherited but didn't stock ammo for before like .38spl & .357. Then it's just buying what I shoot and what I shoot is dictated by what's on the truck that week. But I was able to pick up 400 rounds of .223 for a carbine course I did back in July. They had federal red box bulk packs of .223. They had 800 round bricks of .22 a couple weeks ago with no purchase limit so I bought 5 bricks. That's my practice ammo for the next 6 months.
9mm, while not plentiful, has been available regularly. In the last 2 weeks I've picked up 6 boxes of 124gr and 6 boxes of 115gr and at regular prices of about $11 - $12/50. That's a little higher than normal. Usually they'd have something on sale for around $10 a box or a little less.
What I really need is more AE XM80 7.62 NATO. That's what I have my FAL tuned to run and only have about 200 rounds left out the last ammo can I bought. Although this year's Cold War rifle match has been cancelled. I guess I could have run my PTR this year. It will eat steel cased .308 all day and I've got at least 600 rounds of that left.
.223 is getting ridiculous. Even steel cased junk is near $0.60 a round.
I see small pistol primers out there, so maybe look at getting a press? I managed to grab some 5,000 large pistol primers recently. Feeling a little more secure in my ability to at least fuck around at the range until the insanity ends.
Nope... I see ammo deals pop up and instantly disappear within minutes. The nearest Coastal (farm store), in Hillsboro OR, gets shipments in every Tuesday, and there is a line at the door before they open.
No. Gun sales Jan-July this year were almost as high as the total sold in all of 2019, and a YUGE chunk of the sales were first-time gun owners. Demand has increased drastically, and the supply chain just can't keep up.
Anyone here have one? Is that a good workaround for the Ammo situation?
used to have an AK-47. And I have a 20 gauge shotgun. But I’ve never owned a muzzleloader though I have shot musket and Springfields in Civil War reenactment‘s without loads.
I thought I was stupid for paying a $1000 for two cases of 5.56. Now I feel incredibly smart. Good thing 12 gauge target loads are still cheap and plentiful, but I ain’t paying
$1 for a 9mm round.
To anyone wondering, primers are the bottleneck in the supply chain. Takes several years to expand a primer operation or get a new one going (permitting, building requirements, etc.). Supply cant keep up with demand.
I just paid $750.00 otd on a brick of 9mm, boxes of 200 were $200.00, completely fucked up, I was lucky to find that. They had 8 bricks and they were gone in an hour.
I went to my local shop to rent a gun I was thinking about buying. They were not only out of guns for sale entirely, they didn’t even have range ammo. As soon as I found the gun I wanted in stock online, I jumped on it even though it was a bit overpriced. This may be the biggest indicator, way beyond polling.
At least buy a Louisville Slugger while they're still available
Don't bring a bat to a gun fight.
Yep. But if there are no bullets wtf you gonna do when someone breaks in your house?
Helicopter your dong at them.
Big Mike school of home defense.
I have approximately 10,000 rounds immediately accessible.
I have another 30-50K in storage somewhere.
I think I'm good.
EDIT: Besides, that's what the bayonets are for.
Jokes on you I have like 3 boxes which you dont have!
Haha seems you're well prepared. I am finally getting my preparations in order, am way late to the game.
Any tips for long term storage?
that's what lakes are for

You can hand them down to your grandchildren, but they’ll all laugh at you with their space force Gauss guns and 40watt range plasma rifles.
A canoe.
A cool, dry place (year round) that doesn't draw attention from the curious or law enforcement.
Tally ho lads
I thought you lost all of that in a canoe accident.
I don't do water stuff. In any case, they would look for it in that body of water.
Use the bat!
Machete.
If your close enough with some surprise you stand a pretty good chance.
This isn't Dishonored. You cannot blink/teleport. Firearms and clear LOS is what you need.
Doesn't have to be name brand. I have a lathe and have access to any wood that you want.
Check your local pawn shops for ammo.
I can only find used stuff at those places
Joking aside, do people pawn ammo there, or do they have some stock of ammo to go with the pawned guns?
I think Kenosha has at least 7 rounds available

I went today. They we out of everything I need. .223, Colt .45, 9 mm, .38, 7.62x39mm, 12 gauge, .380
Ammo.com. just saying...
Ammoseek.com - why stick with one site?
We need a post about lists of reputable suppliers so everyone can have more options
When someone compiles one, add bulkammo.com to it.
Ammoseek has been the most reliable for me so far.

.308 WIN is about $1.25 and up.
.338 Win Mag is still the same price. At least Elk season isn't going to cost an arm and a leg...
...err, any more than it does .
308 is as high as I'm willing to go for availability/price.
Last week I grabbed 200 rounds for $.52/round. I should have bought more.
You should have cleaned out the place, if allowed to.

Honest question, are they just not giving us the ammo, do we can’t buy it?
There is a steady supply, but when demand goes up this much, the existing manufacturing can’t keep up.

Thanks, just curious.
I'm starting to doubt whether it was smart for me to wait for prices to go down...
But I'm not willing to pay .70+ cents /round. Sorry. My pockets don't go deep. I'll have to make due with what I have.
I’m thinking about buying The Ruger old army black powder revolver.

On the reloading supply front, the good news is that we are still getting consistent imports of smokeless powder (we get a ton of it from AU).
Back in the great powder shortage of 2015, imports completely disappeared.
Its primers that are the problem.
Since you say that it’s better then the polls:
Are people stocking up because they think the democrats will win and outlaw ammo sales?
Or are people stocking up for the sudden and inevitable riots after President and the republicans win?
Fear.
I've been monitoring things closely since Feb. The coronavirus began all this, and that was fear. The riots have just taken in to another level.
Whoever is seen as stopping that fear wins bigly. At the moment that is Trump.
Dems are praying for a resurgence in corona as the weather turns colder.
State and local governments infringing on our rights sparked this.
I think the scenario in November is that shit is so incredibly hostile and divisive that things have a good chance of popping off either way.
What is the normal price?
My last few orders were all in the $185-200 range for cases of 1000 rounds.
For .223, expect to pay north of $500 for a 1000 round lot of steel case.
Last Christmas I was paying .13 for 9mm, .15 for fawty and .25 for brass .223
Better hope it's not also being bought out by commie shitheads looking to fuel their murderous revolution.
Those fuckers are going to start. They will ambush police, set up roadblocks, raid and kill patriots.
Beware of coordinated attacks. Once it starts, they are taking over their shitholes and eliminating everyone else.

I paid $600 for 600 5.56 rounds. It was their last box in stock.
