I can't remember which election it was but I believe it was in California senate race. The Republican candidate was up double digits and like 95% reporting it was like a 2:1 ratio of Republican votes to Democrat. They made the statement on the news that ballots were found and in order for the Democrats to win they will have to virtually be all for the Democrat candidate. Well guess what nearly all the votes found were for the Democrat and put that person in the lead by like 1% and won. The Republicans did nothing about it. It was statistically impossible for the Democrat to win and still they bent over and said better luck next time. Obviously my details are not accurate but the story is true.
Reality is acknowledging their intent, not accepting defeat in advance. In 2016 the same people were swearing up and down that it was pragmatism to assume months in advance that Hillary would rig it and implying there was no point in even getting our hopes up about Trump.
We probably would have won two or three more states without people running around spreading that sort of thinking.

Texas is like most places in that many poll workers are elderly people who are retired. This year, they aren't working because they are the group most at risk for COVID mortality and hundreds of people will be getting close to them. Being quarantined has actually made elders more likely to catch COVID.
If you have vacation time or are working from home, please volunteer to help. Texas is likely to close some polling places due to lack of staffing, and we can't be the only state with this problem.
I don't get this push. If you look at Americans, many are overweight. Many have diabetes. Many have COPD. Especially the elderly. Do these people not count. I'd like to think that all Americans count.

However, when I ask people in that age range what they think their survival rate is, they often say 90% or so. They believe they have a 1 in 10 chance of dying from COVID. There is a ton of misinformation out there, and there's a ton of uninformed people as well.
Educating people about the causal factors of death is important to educating them about the realities of their risk levels and allowing them to take informed autonomy over their risk preferences. Think about it this way, if every single COVID death had eczema, people with eczema would realize "Crap, I need to take this real serious..." (As would people who frequently come in contact with people with eczema) Likewise when you tell them that thr mortality rate of a person without any secondary factors approaches zero, they can readjust their thinking.
Showing data that suggest most people who die from this are really old (median death age is 76) or really sick (avg comorbidities is 2.6) doesn't mean we don't care about those people, but means that we should be capable of isolating my actual risk level and the risk level of the people I care about/interact with frequently.
PS: Obesity isnt listed as often as you would think as a comorbidity. Neither is diabetes if you're under 55.
