It's pronounced "neegah". Chinese people use it constantly in conversations as a pause in thought. Almost like we would say "ummm" or "like". Most of the times repeating the word until they catch their thought.

I understand English, Russian, and a bit of several languages. There are lots of words that sound similar but have different meanings in different languages, even the relatively close European languages.
