Cruz overplayed his hand and thought he could bluff Trump because he DID have superior debating skills. But thats the thing, superior debaters don't need to bluff. They let the facts speak for themselves and the debater just lines the up for subsequent punches.

Once Trump called his bluff, he could discredit everything else Cruz said. Especially as Cruz got even more frustrated and threw out even weaker arguments.
