Yeah been there. Covid shut down AA meetings. I'll look to see if they are back up. Yeah, I'm probably the guy that needs to go to the hospital, again. Thanks!
Stay strong. Write down your motivations for quitting and where you want to be in life 1 month, year, 5 years. That exercise of writing your thoughts down helps gain some clarity.
You have value, remember that. There are lurkers in your same position that are reading this and are seeing that they aren’t alone in the struggle. Just by having the balls to post this you inadvertently help them, even if only a little.
Naltrexone
Brand name: Vivitrol
Description
It can help prevent relapses into alcohol or drug abuse. It really helped my friend who woke up every day with vodka and drank till 3am. He went to meetings everyday and still does. He has been sober for 2 1/2 years and is now leading meetings. Good luck, I will pray for you.
SMH, they closed down AA meeting so guys like you can not get help, but booze is essential so alcoholics don't go cray cray. Peak clown world detected.
As a former alcoholic myself, AA meetings would only make me want booze more after listening to sappy stories and religious bullshitc designed to take advantage of suffering people.
Seriously, just smoke some weed instead. It's safer than booze and only half a bowl gets me more interested in daily activities. I haven't smoked pot in a month, but I wish I did as it'd help with getting me to do more daily chores.
Damn. That's rough. Was your sponsor helpful? Maybe reach out again.
There are plenty of sources for the NA stepwork guide online in PDF. Maybe tomorrow grab a fresh notebook and have a good go at working through some of the first few questions. Granted I am very out of practice, but I distinctly remember that book being key to finding my true self.
Hanging around other fuck ups only solves the lonelyness issue. Looking inside and coming to terms with your existence thus far is the real path forward. Self hatered leads to the pity party and the pity party leads to more self hatred.
We cannot hide from our past, only work to reconcile it. Work your ass off if you want to live free. That little voice telling you you can't is a fucking liar.
Replace with marijuana if you can for a while, it will be nigh impossible without a safer chemical alternative because of the lack of reasonable things to do these days. The longer you go without drinking the easier it is to do. Avoid THC vapes.
This. My dad's stepfather died of alchoholism. He was forced to quit cold-turkey from hospitalization via tuberculosis. He lasted a few months after but the withdrawl killed him.
When you bottom out, you will know it's time. Is it time? Are you tired of degrading your existence? How low do you want to sink before you say enough?
I can throw generalities around, but it won't really matter unless you decide for yourself. You want specific advice, I would need to get to know you better than anoning really allows for. I find having a higher purpose helps keep the demons at bay. Self doubt is a mother fucker.
Maybe you drink to help you sleep, I'd like to know why you get up? What drives you? If you want to really talk, I can, I have time. You probably want to dm me though, some conversations aren't fit for public consumption. You have family? Want one? Lost one? Where is the pain you are drowning rooted? Easy answers usually don't accomplish shit. Are you naturally a control freak in your day to day life? We are in unprecidentedly uncertain times historically, it getting on top of you?
Talk to me pede, you can do this. I believe in you.
If you really want sobriety it can be yours. I got sober 33 years ago and turned my life over to God. I went to rehab for a month and did AA meetings after that several times a week. I prayed, got new sober friends, and kept optimistic. It was hard in the beginning but after the first 30 days it started getting easier to deal with. I had a supportive family and I think that made a huge difference. I just knew I was tired of apologizing for my behavior and the most important task ahead of me was learning to live as a sober person. It was the best thing I ever did.
Praying that you find the best way to get sober and to go on and live a fulfilling life.
There is something called Teen Challenge which is a Christian one-year residential program to help recovering addicts never return to their addictions. See if there is a similar program, or maybe look them up online to see if they're in your area or have a recommendation. It will probably be necessary for you to find a totally new circle of friends who are teetotalers, probably a new set of establishments that don't serve alcohol, and the change may make things awkward around family members who are used to the old you ...especially if the new you is remade by Jesus Christ, which is the easiest way to do such a transformation. That's not to say that it is easy - it might be more stressful for some than passing BUD/S (well, maybe not, lol) but I think the average success rate for Teen Challenge is about 70%, while it's in the ballpark of 20% for the best secular program and the average is something like 8% if I remember correctly.
Well done. And I'm not saying this just because I'm a Trump supporter.
It's about rejecting fear. You need to love yourself, be strong, and simply refuse to be bent and broken by anyone or anything.
If life is too peaceful, a man has no purpose. A man needs to fight and conquer. How can you drink and hurt yourself when you need your body and mind to be strong for the fight?
It might feel like you're hounded, but it's not true. That what they want to make you feel.
For every soyboy screaming in your face, there's 10 of us Trump supporters and 10 more normies that don't agree but are impressed and respect your courage.
They want to make us feel we are few.
We are many.
For me the wake up call was the day after my last bender in late 2014...
I had gotten shitfaced with a few buddies at a local bar outside of JBLM, went back to the barracks, called my mother at three in the morning and began telling her about all the things I had done in Iraq and Afghanistan in great detail between the sobs and threats to kill myself. My sister (who is a Major in the Air Force) was around, took the phone away from my mother, and talked to me until I passed out. She called me a couple hours later and explained what had happened.
I haven’t had or wanted a drink since.
Not saying it works for everyone, but that was my rock bottom, and I have no intention of ever hitting it again.
I would say cold turkey and find hobbies to occupy time. Take walks, hit the gym. You might have to stay away from friends and such if they are going to be partying until your mind can definitely say no. Good luck.
Okay, now this is an amazing coincidence. I've watched The Five quite a bit and I've never heard ANY references to quitting drinking before tonight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s82Q1hJoYNw
AA is the oldie but the goodie. I know the groups are closed. Call around, ask for a sponsor. Have you got a decent doctor? Can you find a good one? Open up, tell them everything you’ve tried, and what happened next. Online counselling with addiction experienced professional. Daily exercise, walk/run several times a day, gradually build up fitness, give your body some help towards recovery. Drink plenty of water. Alcoholics are usually dehydrated. Be prepared to accept help to address the pain running deep. Hitting rock bottom means making the decision to stop hiding. Don’t go cold turkey with alcohol addiction, too risky. AA is your best bet. Good luck and may the Angels smile on you.
I quit drinking the morning after a night of drinking realizing I did not get put in the hospital for the way I acted drunk and should have had my ass kicked severely. .
I acted like Antifa does when antagonizing a patient Pede. Lil ol me acting tough in a bar knowing bouncer freind had my back.
I have never drank again because of the memory stuck in my head of that night. 30 years ago.
Maybe leave this one to the folks who have been there? Overly simplistic answers don't tend to accomplish much, if anything they have negative results. Just saying.
Yeah doctors have not helped in that regard. Believe me I have tried and said, benzos are the only thing that have gotten me off that stuff, please help. They said that's drug seeking behavior.
I was drinking every night for 10+ years and weed was what worked for me (and the unbearable hangovers).
You're going to need a chemical substitute that is safer. Don't "go it alone" because quite honestly everything is going to trigger your need to drink these days, there's nothing to do, no shows on TV to watch, no movies, etc. Weed however makes things more interesting so maybe read a book or learn computer programming. Half a bowl generally does it for me, I don't get too fucked up while finding things more palatable to deal with.

Do not quit cold turkey, it could kill you. You have to taper down the doses or seek medical help.
Jordan Peterson!!!!
Ah man. Stress, anger, anxiety. PTSD. At this point to be a able to function.
The real deal. Until this is answered nothing gets better.

If you're a true alcoholic then you need to get help. Cold Turkey prob wont work for you.
This. My dad's stepfather died of alchoholism. He was forced to quit cold-turkey from hospitalization via tuberculosis. He lasted a few months after but the withdrawl killed him.
I said a prayer for him and for you. God Bless you and your family. Thanks for reaching out. Means a lot.

Thank you friend. Sorry if I'm not replying with anything specifically gracious yet. Because everything you said is helpful. I'll revisit it.

Leave the Democraps and come over to the side that wins!
Thank you, a good prescription for a good life.
I don't know how to help but I want to say good luck.
We need you in the war to come.
Think of how communists are taking over our countries and our lands (it's international). We need patriots to fight them back.
Don't waste your life with alcohol.
Wouldn't you prefer to have the back of a fellow pede when they come to arrest us for a mean Facebook post?
I took the step to Endorse Trump yesterday. I wont dox myself, but from my position, that's pretty huge. I've been hounded ever since.
Well done. And I'm not saying this just because I'm a Trump supporter.

You might look into this program. If you have a serious problem this is based on cognitive therapy. https://www.smartrecovery.org/
Also work out, run, drink lots of water, start eating healthy (if you don't), maybe buy a juicer if you have a hard time eating healthy.
You have to really want it. Be honest with yourself.
Find something to keep you busy.
My mother always says “idle hands are the devil’s workshop”
Just stop. Cold turkey. Do it.
Thanks yeah I tried and almost had a heart attack. Palpitations. Delirium. Hallucinations.
You might require brief inpatient then.
Maybe leave this one to the folks who have been there? Overly simplistic answers don't tend to accomplish much, if anything they have negative results. Just saying.
He is asking on a Trump board. Just saying.
Yeah physical dependency for sure. I do have family to help but they already helped me before, and I don't want to seem a failure.
Tough love approach, a little harsh. I forgive you.
Yeah doctors have not helped in that regard. Believe me I have tried and said, benzos are the only thing that have gotten me off that stuff, please help. They said that's drug seeking behavior.
It is. Substituting is not the answer. Staying in the moment is.
For the next five minutes, keep your shit together. Let me know how it goes.
5th of vodka everyday.
All day?
