Looking back at the RNC there were none of the Rinos there. It's as if the RNC was a changing of the gaurd. I've said in the past that after leaving the WH Trump should start a third party. But now I don't believe that, as he's simply moulded the Rep party into one that anyone, including independents can be a part of.
I believe from now on, Rinos will no longer be welcome, and the few that are still there won't get a seat at the table, and get to set the agenda. This will mean no new never ending wars and jobs being shipped overseas.
Just wondering in the future, could Trump be RNC Chair or some other influential position within the party to keep it honest?
The President is ostensibly the head of a political party (or Presidential Candidate if the party is not in power). That means Trump already is, from a point of tradition and role, the head of the RNC. Yes there's a Chairman (woman currently) but that's supposed to be a position of implementing the marching orders given by the figurehead Trump.
The problem is that in any organization--regardless of the official legal structure--there is a dark smoky room somewhere filled with rich old white guys that actually call the shots. This is true for both the DNC and the RNC. They control the money, and it's ultimately the money that controls everything else.
Trump is a disruptive influence. You know that surely one or more of those men in the dark smoky room work for the pharmaceutical industry, for example, and they are definitely not happy Trump is taking them on.
Despite being the "leader" of the Republican Party, Trump has faced resistance and outright disobedience by the people who should be supporting him no matter what. (Their slogan during the Bush years, "my President, right or wrong")
So no I don't think Trump can ever truly lead the RNC. I think he used the RNC to get elected because he knew third-party candidates don't stand a chance against the duopoly that exists. And Trump can't really take a hard line and demand the RNC kick people out because they will surely defect to the Dems out of spite.
If Trump does the same amazing job for the next four years, then he can use that success to force a purity test that cleans house, or possibly start a new political party and hand-select the candidate to run against whoever the DNC and RNC put forward. That's when it would happen if it is ever going to happen: in 2024.
