The NIH controls the money for grants. They've always been corrupt. Nepotism is the name of the game.

As a former academic researcher, I can wholeheartedly confirm that everything grant-related is political first and science second. We had regular seminars on grant application writing to go over the current buzzwords and language to be used in order to improve our chances for grant approval. Utterly fucking toxic.

Isn't it nice to escape the cesspool of academia? Groupthink, social engineering and lowkey modern serfdom. Not worth it.

What did you research?

Nepotism is almoat everything in science. It's who you know more than what you know. Unless your research is amazingly groundbreaking and irrefutable, if you aren't in the accepted community, you will be shunned....regardless of the quality of your science.
