Never get numb feet again after wearing them for 12+hrs wet. Good boots withstand impact better too. Astronomically better than the hard standard issue trash can boots that cut into your feet. Take care of your feet and knees, you can always get more money but those don't grow back.
Wal-Mart shoes are more expensive in the long run if they don't last long. I try to buy out of season/clearance for almost everything. It's probably easier for women to find markdowns since shoe styles change so often, though.
