One of my favorite Stalin quotes, when asked by a reporter why the Russians didn't build tanks with the same quality as the Germans, Stalin responded.... "because quantity has a quality of its own."

He was a ruthless son of a bitch. But who else besides a ruthless son-of-a-bitch could have beat the Germans?
