I just sent them a chat message. They asked for time to "review my question."
Got a response: "I’m a supervisor with our Digital Servicing department. Thank you for your feedback. Our decision was based on that website’s violation of our operating regulations. We will forward your feedback to our HQ team."
Replied: "I've seen the email, you liar. 'Because there already has been media coverage of payment companies supporting the campaign, we anticipate the possibility of feedback from outside audiences.' Do you want to amend your answer or keep lying to your customers?"
No response for over 10 minutes, then got a: "If you have any account related questions, please do let us know. I hope you have a good rest of your day."
The AI is really advanced. Do you think you're the first person who has asked the question you asked? I was in the banking industry/customer service/account management. You were chatting with a bot.
No, that was a human. Most call centers permit you to "end the call" if somebody says something to trap you, can't be given a satisfying answer, and you can't do anything about it.
Railing against the minions won't help anything. Then again, I can't tell you who to complain at. That is the catch, isn't it? Leaving in droves is really the only option, but sheesh, I almost never run into customers with a discover card.
I don't use Discover myself, but yeah, most of the payment processors pull stuff like this. VISA, to their credit, tries to stay out of these issues, but they strike me as wanting to also flee at first chance given.
That wouldn't be worth the credit hit since your available credit will drop by (up to) 40K. A small card wouldn't be so bad, but 40K, yeah that'll hurt. Just use it minimally.
If you have an ounce of self control, credit cards are literally free money. If you spend only as much as you typically would with your debit card or woth cash, you literally end up with more spending power for every dollar.
Pay off your balance in full every single month and you're fine.
Urging people to close a line of credit is irresponsible as hell. Treat it like it's your debit card and you're literally paid for spending money.
Over a few years, I haven't paid a cent in interest and have basically robbed discover of a few thousand dollars.
I like your sentiment but Discover already robbed the merchant by more than what they paid you. You're just an expense when you talk about cash back.
But at the same time fuck all these CC corps. I would love it if merchants can give me a discount if I pay with cash or debit but their contracts forbid them from giving discounts for non CC use. The contracts also forbid merchants from charging the CC fees ontop of the goods.
I spend $100 at the store, the store gets around $97 and the CC gets $3. If I spend cash the store gets the whole $100 for goods that SHOULD only cost $97 if the merchant fees weren't so BS. The store isn't allowed to offer a $3 discount if I use cash either. The problem is that increased CC use raises the cost of goods for people who don't use CCs.
Honestly I'm ok with more regulations on these fucks, especially to stop them from making political decisions based like this.
Sadly there is an advantage to that "debt". The card company will fight for you to be able to refund the transaction if something messed up happens. Why? Because they know you won't pay them back for something you never recieved.
I pay my card off every paycheck. Seems to be the best compromise I can think of. I get all the safety services, and they don't make a dime of fees or interest off me. It also makes you look responsible or something. 🤔
Respectfully, in my opinion you are complicit in your own slavery.
The protections you speak of are available using Visa/Mastercard Debit (your money but it goes through the CC system so they can charge a merchant fee).
By "looking responsible" I assume you mean maintaining a good credit rating. This is achievable by paying all bills/rent on time and saving a fixed proportion of your income each month. "You need to have a credit card to get a good credit rating" is the exact garbage you'd expect the bloodsuckers to tell us.
Calling to close my account with a 40,000 limit
Edit: before I make a knee-jerk reaction, I will chat them.

it definitely wasn't. The initial response was very personalized. They had to go get someone. They've sent me messages before. It's not a bot.

No. Bots don't take 10 minute to reply. That's literally the entire point of using a bot - prompt communication with the customer.

We are all slaves to the bankers now...
and there it is
Might as well have been a confession
They just upped me last week, too.
Joke's on them. Loss of business incoming!
Where do we go though?
Don't need credit too much credit if you're buying things in cash. I can let go of my allowance here without it hurting my score at all.

Debt is how they enslave us. I urge strongly my friends and family to close their credit card accounts if they have them.
You're spending money you haven't earned yet. You're stealing from yourself
That is absolutely awful financial advice.

They collect info on everything you buy and sell it to other creepy companies.

If you have a 40k limit chances are you already have a mortgage and wont give a fuck about a temp drop in your credit score.
What happened? Isn't that going to fuck up your credit score?
