If you have an ounce of self control, credit cards are literally free money. If you spend only as much as you typically would with your debit card or woth cash, you literally end up with more spending power for every dollar.
Pay off your balance in full every single month and you're fine.
Urging people to close a line of credit is irresponsible as hell. Treat it like it's your debit card and you're literally paid for spending money.
Over a few years, I haven't paid a cent in interest and have basically robbed discover of a few thousand dollars.
I like your sentiment but Discover already robbed the merchant by more than what they paid you. You're just an expense when you talk about cash back.
But at the same time fuck all these CC corps. I would love it if merchants can give me a discount if I pay with cash or debit but their contracts forbid them from giving discounts for non CC use. The contracts also forbid merchants from charging the CC fees ontop of the goods.
I spend $100 at the store, the store gets around $97 and the CC gets $3. If I spend cash the store gets the whole $100 for goods that SHOULD only cost $97 if the merchant fees weren't so BS. The store isn't allowed to offer a $3 discount if I use cash either. The problem is that increased CC use raises the cost of goods for people who don't use CCs.
Honestly I'm ok with more regulations on these fucks, especially to stop them from making political decisions based like this.
That is absolutely awful financial advice.
