I often hear Romans 13:8 as proof that any debt is evil. Though, to say that is taking the verse out of context. The point of that passage is to be loving toward others. In other words, do not allow longstanding debts to harm them or be a way for you "get back" at them (as one of the individuals above is doing).
It is technically impossible to always be debt-free.
