The President has the authority from Congress to withhold certain appropriations from states/cities if they fail to follow federal law. The White House is looking to see what funds they can legally withhold from these incompetent cities, essentially to apply budget pressure on the derelict mayors and councils to alter their thinking. The first four cities in the crucible are NYC, DC, Portland, and Seattle. The DOJ has been ordered to review and identify other cities for possible defunding.

Thank you. That is fantastic. Sounds like a very clear case of "Be careful what you ask for - you might get it."

I'm wondering exactly what this federal defunding will mean for these cities once it happens. Infrastructure projects affected? Certain jobs lost?

Am thinking these mayors might whip up a rage-quit of more violence once they've realized what's happened.

NYC's state budget I think relies on 30% Federal funding. Just cutting Fed dollars for infrastructure, like road repair, could turn NYC red in one season.

Remember all the times the state started bellowing and wailing about government shutdown because of budget fights, and all the things they said would be cut, if they didn't pass a budget? Most of that is on the line, wholly or partially.

It's all fun and games until the money spigot is turned off.

I would love to see the President defund these cities, and use the savings for another tax rebate. Or fund the wall, directly.

Blasio should have cut his scammer wife's spending.
