A hostage situation might warrant a no knock raid.

The problem with you're argument is that you can extend it to nearly everything as you have done.

As I see it the real problem consists of bad actors. With people like that we can't have anything.

If we apply such restrictions reductively we're left with an anarchy. These people will abuse any and all authority.

It's not an easy problem. I don't have a solution to the problem in general.

Hostage situation involves people being awake and a crime in progress.

Where these "no knock"s are especially problematic is when police are knocking down doors at 4AM, invading a person's home.

I can tell you what will happen in most American homes if an unknown, unannounced force knocks down a door and rushes in. The next thing to happen will be a fire fight between a citizen and a group of LEOs. None of this is needed, and will cause innocent people to die unnecessarily.

Extremism (which is what it seems you think I have, here) in these matters is no vice. We have Inalienable Rights. Not Sometimes Rights or It Depends Rights.

I think it was midnight but I also think the missing point is that it sounds like they did knock despite the warrant. That's how he was in place ready to shoot whoever came in the door.

A no knock warrant for a hunch is bullshit. Where between that and the hostage situation I don't know where you draw the line.
