Hostage situation involves people being awake and a crime in progress.
Where these "no knock"s are especially problematic is when police are knocking down doors at 4AM, invading a person's home.
I can tell you what will happen in most American homes if an unknown, unannounced force knocks down a door and rushes in. The next thing to happen will be a fire fight between a citizen and a group of LEOs. None of this is needed, and will cause innocent people to die unnecessarily.
Extremism (which is what it seems you think I have, here) in these matters is no vice. We have Inalienable Rights. Not Sometimes Rights or It Depends Rights.
I think it was midnight but I also think the missing point is that it sounds like they did knock despite the warrant. That's how he was in place ready to shoot whoever came in the door.
A no knock warrant for a hunch is bullshit. Where between that and the hostage situation I don't know where you draw the line.
