Surrendered on the deck of the battleship USS Missouri. With President Truman (from Missouri) having just dropped two nukes on 'em.

Top KEK (and yes, I know Truman was a Democrat... still an alpha move making them sign on "HIS" ship).

No pede it wasn't "his" ship. It was the ship named after his home state, big difference.

This is HIS SHIP!

She was christened by his daughter so it's the closest thing to being his ship.

Grandpa was there watching from the rigging of a nested ship, and 1980's I helped tie up that ship and walked on that spot.

Fun fact: General Douglas McArthur’s father was a talented officer who fought for the Union in the Civil War.

Especially those who died in the Pacific theater. Talk about the hell of war.

My neighbor's uncle served on the Mo' (he actually worked in one of the 16" gun turrets) and witnessed the surrender when it happened. He's still around. Has to be 96 or 97 years by now.

My grandfather was in the army and was attached to MacArthur. One of the last jobs he had in 45 was at the University of Manila where he said he would see MacArthur up on a balcony smoking his pipe from time to time. My gramps didn't talk much about it but when he passed a few years ago we found a bronze star along with other items. Wish I knew the story behind it.
